LECTURE ON THE VISION OF MARIUPOL REBORN FOR STUDENTS OF PRIAZOVSKY STATE TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY

What will Mariupol look like after de-occupation? How to restore the destroyed cities of Ukraine in the shortest possible time?

These and other questions were answered by the deputy mayor of Mariupol, Serhiy ZAKHAROV, and architect Oleksandr MORGUN, to students of the Priazovsky State Technical University majoring in Architecture and Urban Planning.

The meeting was held in a mixed format. It was also attended by students from NTU “Dnipro Polytechnic” and National University “Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic”.

The speakers shared a plan to rebuild the city after the de-occupation - the Mariupol Reborn project, which the Mariupol City Council team, together with community representatives, SCM, and foreign partners, has been working on for the past two years.

The meeting was held within the framework of cooperation between the university and the Mariupol team in training future professionals ready for the post-war reconstruction of Ukrainian cities.

Such cases are not just meetings. They are tools for forming a professional and civic position. This is a chance for architecture students to become a part of the history of recovery

said the rector of PSTU Elena Khadzhinova

The deputy mayor also believes that cooperation between communities, universities, and government officials can become a new standard for Ukrainian postwar urbanism.

Now, as part of an educational project, the Mariupol Reborn Community Recovery School is mimicking the curriculum for de-occupied and temporarily occupied communities. The project, founded by the Association of Ukrainian Cities and the NGO Mariupol.Reborn, aims to train municipal managers for the recovery period. The project is supported by the UK Government through the UK International Development program and the International Republican Institute (IRI Ukraine) in partnership with Metinvest and SCM. The educational partners of the project are Metinvest Polytechnic and the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy.
