AFTER DEOCCUPATION IT IS IMPORTANT FOR US TO BUILD OUR COMMUNITIES AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE. THIS IS THE PURPOSE OF MARIUPOL REBORN

The XVII Ukrainian municipal forum "Decentralization, transparent governance and unity - the basis for Ukraine's recovery" was held in Kyiv. The Mayor of Mariupol, Vadym Boichenko, moderated the panel "Planning for the Restoration and Development of the De-occupied and Temporarily Occupied Territories", at which, in particular, he shared the experience of the Mariupol Reborn team.

The Ukrainian Municipal Forum takes place in Kyiv on 4-6 December 2023. At the event, the most pressing issues related to the implementation of the European Commission's Report "Ukraine 2023" in regional policy, budgeting and public service delivery in cities are raised. The event also focused on planning the reconstruction of the territories affected by the full-scale russian invasion. Speakers shared their vision of the country's revival after the Victory, talked about the benefits of partnership with European communities and how we are already managing to return our people who were forcibly taken to russia.

The strength of Ukrainian communities lies in dialogue and cooperation. Mariupol, in turn, has been engaging international expertise for a year as part of the Mariupol Reborn project and is ready to share its experience with other communities affected by russian aggression.

After the de-occupation, it is important for us to rebuild our communities as soon as possible, restore local self-government in Ukrainian towns and villages, return people home and resolve the issue of rebuilding the damaged housing. That is why our team, together with the government and partners, is developing the Mariupol Revival Strategy. We understand that no one in Ukraine has ever had the experience of rebuilding their communities after such severe destruction as a result of an enemy attack. What to start with? How many specialists are needed and in what field? How much investment is needed and who is ready to invest in rebuilding Ukraine? We are already looking for and finding answers to these questions together with our domestic and international partners

The preliminary estimate of the cost of restoring Mariupol after liberation from the enemy is $14.5 billion. Only the first stage of reconstruction will require 14,000 specialists. A team of experts of the Mariupol municipality continues to work on the development of the most large-scale City recovery plan since the Second World War, Mariupol Reborn. It consists of various stages - from the Fast Action Plan to stabilize the situation immediately after the city's liberation from the occupiers to the construction of a new Mariupol with modern economic opportunities. These are long-term plans that will take 10 years to implement.
