COMMUNITY RECOVERY ACADEMY AND KYIV SCHOOL OF ECONOMICS WILL TRAIN MANAGERS IN UKRAINE'S RECONSTRUCTION

The Community Recovery Academy educational project and the NGO Mariupol Reborn have signed a memorandum of understanding with the Kyiv School of Economics to train recovery managers. The cooperation will take place within the framework of the School's third training module - “Preserving the community, returning people and overcoming social conflicts.”

According to Vadym Boichenko, Mayor of Mariupol and Head of the AUC Section for the Development of De-occupied and Temporarily Occupied Communities, people are the greatest treasure of the state, so we must invest in their education and preparation for the period of post-war recovery.

Our cooperation with the Kyiv School of Economics fully meets the demand for the return and preservation of people in Ukraine, as well as the development of human capital and our common future.

We truly believe that education matters. We need to educate people, businesses and communities. Because it is through skills, competencies, and knowledge that we can overcome unemployment, bring Ukrainians home, and make our country strong during the war, as well as rebuild it for the better after the victory. We have been working with communities for many years and now we are glad to be working together with strong partners, and together we will teach many new communities the necessary skills and knowledge

Rector of the Kyiv School of Economics Tymofiy Brick

Community Recovery Academy was created based on the experience of Mariupol Reborn, which had to be adapted to new realities and global practices. The project responds to numerous requests from communities that have already begun to rebuild or are actively working on developing a recovery strategy. The main challenges include a shortage of professional staff and expertise.

Involvement of the best Ukrainian educational platforms is one of the most important tasks of the School of Recovery as an educational project. This is the basis of its academic nature, comparative and practical approaches, and scientific component. The experience that is currently being gained in Ukraine will create a solid expertise for communities, empowering them to implement changes for development and recovery.

Community Recovery Academy was founded by the Association of Ukrainian Cities and the NGO Mariupol.Reborn. The project is being implemented with the support of the UK Government under the UK International Development program and the International Republican Institute (IRI Ukraine) in partnership with Metinvest and SCM. Previously, Metinvest Polytechnic and the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy were the project's educational partners.

The school started in September 2024. Its goal is to train municipal managers for Ukraine's post-war recovery. During the training, 110 participants from 37 communities from different parts of Ukraine joined the project. The project is based on the experience of the Mariupol City Council in developing the Plan for the Revival of the City after the de-occupation of Mariupol, which is being implemented by the Mariupol City Council with the investment support of Rinat Akhmetov's SCM.
