The first module of Community Recovery Academy is completed
As part of the school restoration school, the final lecture of the first module "Renaissance of the City and Town Centers" was held, where the mayor of the French city Pleck-Liermitage, Vice-President of Saint-Brieuc Armor Agglomeration, a member of the European Committee of Regions and the President of the European Federation became the invited speaker. Lag (Elard) Tibo Ginar.
During the lecture, Tibo shared the experience of managing and developing his native community Pleck-Laermitt, which is an agricultural commune near the city of Saint-Brie. In particular, he spoke about two key projects aimed at activating life within the community and attracting different partners.
The first project, Patat'as, aimed at promoting and using potatoes that famous for this area. The community grows over 200 varieties of potatoes of different colors and tastes used not only as a food but also as an element of local culture and even a substitute for plastic in some products.
The second project is a carriage system that allows residents to use cars without the need to purchase them, thereby reducing the number of private cars and reducing CO₂ emissions.
In addition, Tibo Ginar spoke about the role of European funds, in particular the European Regional Development Fund, the European Social Fund and the European Rural Development Fund, in support of the development of its community and other territories of Europe. He emphasized the importance of effective management of these funds at the local level with the involvement of authorities, private enterprises and the public.
Also, the mayor of Lermitage stopped separately on the programs of cooperation between France and Ukraine, in particular, on the signed memorandums of brotherhood between Ukrainian and French communities, as well as on the provision of humanitarian aid to Ukrainian cities and villages.
The experience of the French community Pleck-Laermitage, represented by the mayor of Tibo Ginjar, emphasizes the importance of considering revitalization not only in the context of large cities, but also to pay attention to the restoration of rural and settlement areas.
Focusing resources and efforts solely on the development of urban centers creates the risk of uneven development and decline of remote communities. Instead, a balanced approach that takes into account the needs of both urban and rural/settlement territories is the key to the sustainable restoration and development of all regions of the country.
The Community Restoration Academy, founded by the Association Ukrainian Cities and NGO Mariupol.Rebortn, aims to prepare municipal managers for the recovery period. The project is implemented with the support of the UK government under the UK International Development and the International Republican Institute (IRI UKRAINE) in partnership with Metinvest and SCM. The educational partners of the project are Metinvest Polytechnic, National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy and Ukrainian School of Management.
