The restoration of Ukrainian cities after the war will require billions of investment. Most - in the reconstruction of Mariupol
One of the key topics of URC 2024 (Ukraine Recovery Conference), which is now being held in Berlin, has been the reconstruction of Ukrainian cities affected by a full-scale invasion of Russia. Experts say that the most investment will require the reconstruction of Mariupol. According to the Mariupol City Council, the city was destroyed by about 90%. This is confirmed by the New York Times research.
However, Mariupol is the city that is now the most ready for reconstruction. The Mariupol Reborn project as an example of cooperation between local, government and private business may be a prerequisite for the reconstruction of all Ukraine.
Victory is not just our common goal and dream of all Ukrainians. This is the time we have to be ready for, because after the victory, we will have no less painstaking work on the reform and reform of the country. This means that now we have to develop projects and strategies, look for partners and funding for future recovery. After all, when time comes, we have to know exactly what we have to do to bring people back and reintegrate the territory. It is on these issues with the Ukrainian government, international partners and big business that we work within the framework of the Mariupol Reborn Plan
The purpose of the URC 2024 is to consolidate sustainable international support for the restoration, reform and modernization of Ukraine. And private investments play a significant role in this.
Speaker of the Business dimension panel, member of the Supervisory Board of NGO "Mariupol.Reborn", Communications Director at Rinat Akhmetov's SCM Natalia Yemchenko emphasizes that the best investment in the reconstruction will be business laying, with a constant profit:
It is necessary to invest in Ukraine just now. All foreign partners talk about it. But how to invest, what to invest, there is a certain difference. We believe that it is necessary to invest in business. That is, it is not humanitarian assistance, and it is not a solution to a single problem, which is an opportunity and investment in this opportunity. We, as SCM, are and remain the largest national investor. These are investments in cap and repair of the damaged, and in the creation of completely new projects, especially in energy. But in parallel, we are actively developing our presence in the West. This creates a new experience in interaction with partners in a safe territory, prolongs the chain of value added and provides markets. And, importantly, we "run" new technologies that can later be returned to Ukraine
This year's URC2024 is a continuation of the annual high-level political series on rapid restoration and long -term reconstruction of Ukraine since the beginning of the full-scale war. It is attended by leaders of European countries, including the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy, representatives of international organizations, business and civic activists. It is also the first reconstruction conference to be held in the country that is a current member of the EU.
