Mariupol Reborn was presented to the university community of La Coruna (Spain)

The presentation took place during a visit to Spain by a delegation of the Mariupol City Council headed by Mayor Vadym Boichenko.

In the city of La Coruña, Boichenko took part in a conference at CESUGA (Center for Higher University Studies of Galicia). He presented a project for the revival of Mariupol after de-occupation, which was destroyed by 90% after the shelling of residential buildings, schools, hospitals, power plants, transportation lines, and water supply.

The Mariupol Reborn project is aimed at revitalizing the city by using best practices and the latest technologies. In particular, an important part of it is the Fast Recovery Plan, which aims to restore critical infrastructure, utilities, public support, and security in the city as quickly and efficiently as possible. This initiative, which is considered the largest urban renewal project in Europe since World War II, is being implemented with the investment support of Rinat Akhmetov's SCM.

In addition, Vadym Boichenko also explained to the students of the university's La Coruña campus how the I Am Mariupol network works, a platform that provides assistance through 37 centers to 200,000 Mariupol residents living in other parts of Ukraine, from legal services to psychological assistance.

During the visit to Spain, the Mariupol delegation also met with the mayor of the Spanish city of La Coruña, Inés Rey García, to discuss cooperation between our municipalities, in particular within the framework of projects to create social housing in Ukraine.

Together with the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) in La Coruña, representatives of the Mariupol municipality visited social housing facilities in the city.

Together with the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC), we are developing a comprehensive concept for creating social housing in Ukraine. Therefore, at the invitation of the NRC, my team and I visited Spain, where about 30% of the total housing stock is social housing. We were particularly impressed by the experience of La Coruña. Here, 50 years ago, the municipality created a whole neighborhood of social housing integrated into the city's infrastructure. The area has schools, sports grounds, recreation areas and all the necessary conditions for a comfortable life. This approach has not only attracted people to the city, but has also stimulated the development of the local economy

Vadym Boichenko, Mayor of Mariupol, emphasized.
Ukraine already has the first practical case of creating social housing for Mariupol IDPs. This is a project of the Mariupol municipality implemented jointly with the Government of France and the International Organization for Migration with the support of the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation. Two buildings have already been renovated for social housing for 600 people. At least 9 more projects are planned in 6 cities for 1000 people.
